Make Your Own Sidewalk Chalk
By Sarah Buhr
Making your own chalk is an easy and fun summer project to do with the
kids (or your girlfriends...or yourself). You can make all sorts
of crazy colors. And when you're done, you can make your own driveway
masterpiece!
Here's what you'll need:
2 cups water
2 cups plaster of paris
2 T tempera paint
toilet paper tubes (tape over one end)
Combine all ingredients. Don't use your hands, plaster of paris will dry them out. Let stand for 5 minutes. Put toilet paper tubes on a piece of cardboard or a cookie sheet. Pour mixture into holders. Let stand until almost firm. Peel off holders. Leave chalk to dry thoroughly (1-1/12 hours). Discard any remaining mixture in trash, not down the drain.
