Dear Hip Homemaker, I have dust mites in my bedding and pillow. I don't mind washing my sheets and actually I need a new mattress anyway, but this is my favorite pillow. I don't think I could sleep without it. Is there a way to get rid of them and keep my pillow? Please say there is. Tandy, Rhode Island Dear Tandy, So glad you asked! You most definitely can keep your beloved pillow - and the way is easy. Just tuck it into a plastic bag, tie the bag up and then put the pillow in the freezer for a few hours. No more dust mites and back to blissful bedding for you! Yours truly, The Hip Homemaker Zola asks: Dear Hip Homemaker, I have so much zucchini! I am using some now, but want to store some for later. How do I store it until we are ready to eat it? Dear Zola, Great question for this time of year. Hope you are checking out some of my great zucchini recipes. They will keep for about a week in the fridge, or you can chop it up and freeze it for later. Also, have you thought of pickling the zucchs? That could be delicious. Fried, pickled zucchini is very tasty. Yours truly, The Hip Homemaker Dear Hip Homemaker, I have a lot of old towels that are too ratty to use. I don't want to just throw them away and they are not nice enough to really give away (not even to charity). Is there something I can do with them? Linda, Utah Dear Linda, Oh, there are about a dozen things you can do with those old towels. Make them into oil rags, sew into a quilt, shred and use as filler for that pillow project, or best yet, save a tree and use them as rags to clean your house with. Just shred them up with scissors into nice little rag squares and viola! you don't need paper towels any more! Yours truly, the Hip Homemaker About the Hip Homemaker: |
